Back the visitors in Saturday’s A League clash at the Hindmarsh Stadium.
Adelaide Utd v Western Sydney Wanderers – Saturday 11: 00, BT Sport Europe
A midweek win in the AFC Champions League will have brought some comfort to Adelaide United, but they remain level on points with the Newcastle Jets at the bottom of the A League ladder, although they are above the Jets on goal difference for now. This week they face Western Sydney Wanderers, who have guaranteed themselves playoff football, but have a chance to finish in the top half of the table if they can record a win here.
These two sides have both been plagued by inconsistency this season. Adelaide are W4-D3-L6 at home, but after picking up points in all but one of their last six home games they’ll fancy themselves to do some damage here against a Wanderers side that’s gone W4-D4-L4 on the road but which has won only two of its last eight away from home. That being said, Western Sydney have been good when playing at bottom-half sides, winning three of four such matches, and given that Adelaide have won only two of their 11 games against middle-third sides, we think the away side has more than a sniff here.
Adelaide haven’t looked convincing against middle-third sides, and they’ve won only once in their last seven against the Wanderers. As a result, we’ll back Western Sydney to pick up the Away Win. Western Sydney Wanderers – 1pt @ 2.3
